The creation of the refurbished Neighbourhood Centre, called the Beacon Project, continues the work which has taken place over the last 105 years, providing in the early days sports teams, gymnastic clubs, uniformed organisations and many other groups for different ages. More recently youth clubs, pre-school and toddlers groups, lunch clubs, uniformed organisations and support groups have used the premises to meet the needs of local people.

The premises had reached the stage where they needed a 'face lift' and the Beacon Project enabled the building to be made fit for purpose for the 21st Century.

The refurbished premises will allow for modern equipment to be used e.g. we now have enough electrical sockets to accomodate computers, screens, projectors etc., and provides a bright, warm and pleasant environment for people to meet in.
