However the most important words to say about Worship at Linacre Methodist Mission, are not about how or when we worship, but about who and why!!We worship one God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob- the God of the Old Testament- of the Hebrew Scriptures- the God who is called Yaweh- a Hebrew name which means “I am who I am”- these were the words spoken by God to Moses. This God is the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This name- I am who I am is the same name that Jesus used to refer to himself- in the Gospels of the New Testament. He said this many times- in Greek it is “Ego eimi- I am who I am”: It means the same as Yahweh. In Saint John’s Gospel there are seven major occasions when Jesus is recorded as having used this same name to refer to himself: the most well known is: “ I am the Resurrection and the Life, Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again”- John 11 verse 25 On the notice board outside Linacre Mission another of these “I am” sayings is quoted:“I am the Truth, the Way and the Life ”- John 14 verse 6.After he said these words, Jesus said: “no one comes to the Father except through me”. Jesus taught his followers to call God our Father. He taught that God is our Father, better than the very best of human fathers- that he always loves, always forgives. |

This is WHO we worship!!!One God in three persons- who loves us and wants us to find in him freedom to live life in all its fullness and joy. WHY? We worship him because He alone is worthy of honour and praise. So we come to worship not so much for what we get out of it but for what we can offer to God- our praise and adoration, our thanks for all that God has done for us- for the death of Jesus on the Cross and for the grace and love of God offered to us all. So come and join us and find out more about this amazing, awesome God who is worth worshipping! |
